Edition announces the launch of entertainment focused EIS

Following the recent announcement of the successful sale of Impresario Festivals plc’s festival portfolio to the media and entertainment group Global, we have announced the details of ‘First Edition EIS’, an investment fund that aims to provide growth support for businesses in the media and entertainment sectors. The fund will focus on the live entertainment, television, venues and immersive media sectors, building upon the expertise of the Edition Capital team.

The fund will span both profitable and pre-profit businesses, from the roll out of existing established concepts through to the creation of new assets in the many promising areas of the media and entertainment fields.

First Edition EIS presents both investors and investee companies with an exciting proposition. For investors the fund offers access to fast growing, scalable media and entertainment opportunities. For investee companies, Edition provides capital to creative businesses that have often struggled to secure funding, along with hands-on operational and strategic support to assist them in the next growth phase of their development.

Intelligent Partnership release the EIS industry report 2016/17

Intelligent Partnership have released their EIS industry report 2016/17 that identifies positive changes in the EIS sector that Edition Capital are well positioned to take advantage of:

  • Media and entertainment remains one of the most popular sectors to receive investment through the EIS scheme
  • Almost three in four advisers see their use of EIS increasing over the next two years
  • A growing number of advisers are prioritising EIS qualifying opportunities that focus on growth, in line with 'growth and development' rules

Due to the changes in EIS legislation in 2015, the report acknowledges that there are less EIS products available and coupled with restrictions to other tax efficient investments, it is likely that EIS demand will outstrip supply this year.

Read our musings on investing in live entertainment at Festival Insights

Lisa, one of the Edition partners, was recently asked to write a piece for Festival Insights on what we think are the key things investors are looking for in the live entertainment sector.

It’s a subject that we are very happy to opine on as there are many live entertainment businesses in the UK who could greatly benefit from investment, but don't know where to begin to seek it and to make themselves 'investable.' We hope we’ve helped with our musings, and we're very happy to discuss more in person.
